Weekly Roundup: Blogs about China
Here is the weekly round up of blogs concerning China news. Lots of stuff about what happened in Lh@sa. Interesting.
Chinalawblog.com - Crime in China. China is a safe place. As a foreigner, I’ve felt very safe here. Actually, I’ve often felt safer here than back in Toronto. But recently, I’ve heard of some things happening to foreigners in Shanghai. I heard about the taxi scam there - get in cab, inside of paying 70 RMB you end up paying 7000 RMB to the thugs. This site has some interesting info to think about.
TheOppositeEndofChina - has some great pics of the Lh@sa happenings. I tried to link it, but it wouldn’t work. The photos on this site are fantastic and so is the writing.
China-Briefing.com - Chinese banks strengthen reserve ratios. Sounds like a sensible thing to do.
BeijingNewspeak.com - a-week-in-tibet-journalistic-scoops-cats-paws-and-bbc-blunders. Great article on what happened and how you can read about it.
ATimes.com - talks about China’s & India’s views on the Tib@t actions as well as some other interesting things facing Premier Wen.
Zen Habits - travelling advice. Good tips. As my first Contiki trip mentioned. Pack. Then take out half the stuff and bring twice the money. One other piece of travel advice I learned was to pre- print your postcard labels. This way you can just peel and stick. You don’t need to bring your address book. And you know when you’ve written all the cards you promised to write. (Thanks Debbie for this tip!)
PicktheBrain.com - How to learn a foreign language. I think I’ve added this link before, but i think it’s a great one. When learning a foreign language most people, myself included, seem to focus on reading, doing writing exercises, or speaking or mimicking. But few focus on listening. When you think about how you learned your first language, listening to your parents for the first year (19 months actually), then you started speaking. So I believe this link has some great advice. Focus on listening everyday. This will help your hear get used to the language. And most important enjoy yourself while learning the foreign language.
